Just like facebook. I want one. Because if there was one, everyone would like all my posts. It would make me feel good. Can I have one? Nerd points for like button! :0

Eh, I would have to disagree on this one. I do like facebook, but every one and everything is imitating facebook and the uniqueness has been lost. Last thing we need is the forums to imitate it too.

Re: Like button.

There's a system like this that we use on another forum. Except it's called karma and it goes on someone's personal profile. You can get - or + karma from other forumers. :3 It's neat.

What about a +rep to posts which adds onto peoples profiles or under their titles when they get enough. Like a little star or bunny rabbit..

Re: Like button.

In Kyle's old forums, you could "Thank" people for a post with a "Thank you" button.

Meh, I don't see the point. In fact, I can see forum content devolving because of it.

You do have a point there. Facebook has the "likers" which is the category I fall into. Instead of commenting, I simply click like as a sign of approval, agreement, or it made me laugh. If we add a like button or any button in any way related to it, there will most likely be less posting.

Re: Like button.

Sure, the main concern for me, though, is that people start to shamelessly pander for likes and we lose lots of substance (which, let's face it, there isn't yet that much of here) through that sort of sycophancy.

Nah, it won't hamper the substance on here, the forum will continue on with or without a like button. It makes sense that the quality of posts would improve, because people are looking for ways to get people to like their more posts. The + to having a like\+ button is that you don't have to comment with a +1 everytime you like something.

Having a reputation system wouldn't be a good idea… Because all you have to do is like yourself a whole bunch of times (e.g. get a new account and like yourself, get a bud to like you a whole bunch) to flaw the system.

As an alternative, we could have an "awesome" button.

It's going to open the door to people writing things that are solely designed to get likes. It's sad, but it'll happen. It will manifest itself in jokes or other childish stuff, not gratuitous posts on musical theory because there's only a handful of posters qualified enough to give that information.
