Hi Kyle (and anybody else),
I`m a new member here since yesterday. I`m from Germany and by excident I found some Clips from Kyle Landry at youtube. I was very very very impressed about your play at the piano. Especially the clip dearly beloved 2009 excited me so much that I copied the sheets of it and I started to practise on it. Until now I think my technic is not good enough to do it well but the peace will help me to improve my play also. Maybe it becomes my "master peace" in some time ... :-)
I am very interested in piano lessons by you!!! :-)) Of course I can not travel to USA for a piano lesson (hihi) and therefore I am interestes in having lessons via Internet.
I think you and your students have to try and find out if it will be a good thing or not!
I started playing piano very late (in the age of 30!). I played Akkordeon (don't know the english word) and Violin when I was young. Since I was 5 or 6 years old I always wanted to play piano. Each time I noticed a piano I had to watch and play. I just love this instrument more that anything else ... This love never ended so I started playing and had several teachers in the meantime. My job gives me the opportunity to practice a lot and that's what I do since 15 years now, each day at least 1 hour but most of the days 2 - 4 hours a day. My present teacher studed organ and piano and works for the catholic church here in Nürnberg as a Kantor (I don't know the english word for it! Sorry!! The same "job" that Johann Sebastian Bach had in Leipzig by the way!)
So ... I am of course probably not your youngest student (hihi) but still in a good shape physically and mentally. It would be very very nice if you get in contact with me.
Thanks a lot for great music ....

I don't think piano technique lessons would work at all really, other than the odd pointer. But teaching interpretation, or improv, on the other hand....

Offline
Piano lessons for beginners? No. Anyone can teach you how to "play" piano. Kyle shouldn't waste his time on teaching the basics.
Teaching something that we couldn't get elsewhere, such as insight into his style, improv, and fills... now that would be worth watching.
For example:
- Arpeggios in harmony (same three notes, each hand starts on a different note though)
- Arpeggio shapes
Obviously a lot more, but you get the idea.
Online
I sort of disagree. I've been looking for a piano teacher and have not been able to find one. Granted, All I've done is ask friends and a guy at a music store who gave me a couple names. I will look harder for one once I can afford one. What I'm saying is not every one has access to a piano teacher. Still, for those that are like me theres Lypur on youtube who gives free piano and music theory lessons for free via video series. Probably some others that do the same that I do not know about.

You can't truly grab someones attention. I tried online guitar lessons and they were an epic fail and I ended up just learning it by myself.
Maybe you should make "Learn to play piano like Kyle" videos and sell them. Just an idea.

I think it's a great idea Kyle. There is a LOT of people admiring you in the world, and I'm pretty sure a lot of people would appreciate it. You are quite famous among youtube-pianists after all!
I know I'd love to try it out any time!!!

What if we send a video of us playing any song or a specific audition piece.
Then you could divide people into groups based on rating, skill, or requested class on improving, ect...
I like the idea. I do agree with mhdmt on some things.
It all comes together, then life comes along. Still, that would be cool.

Oh man, I would TOTALLY take lessons from you, Kyle.
My piano teacher now is a psycho 69 year old lady. She drinks vinegar daily because she likes it. She also swears at me D;
And I think DC64's idea is cool!!

I think you need a new teacher. Any Good teacher respects his/her students and teaches according to the students needs. Not only that any good teacher who truly loves teaching will want his students to surpass him.

Offline
TimotheusTJB is right. If she cannot give you the respect you give her (I assume you dont do the same to your teacher) then you shouldnt be paying her. I would find a new teacher soon.

By the way DC, you can call me Timothy or Tim if you wish. The only case where I find a teacher like that half way acceptable is if your in a small town like me where piano teachers are hard to find. I don't have the privilege of being picky about a teacher when I can afford one. Unfortunately, I'll have to make do with what I can find. However, if you live in a bigger city with many piano teachers available, take advantage of the variety and find one that's respectful and suitable for your goals.

I want a new teacher, but like you also said, you need one you can afford. She's pretty good, but she's also one of the affordable teachers. Also, most teachers in my city don't actually come to your house, they are usually at a studio, but mine comes to my house. I've also had her teach me for 10 years, and I don't want to ask my mom for a change in teachers, cause it'd be really awkward. Maybe one day. But as for now, I'm just gonna have to suck it up.

And yes, you're right, I definitely do not swear at her. Or anyone for that matter

@Timotheus- wow, my name is Timmy too, and i call myself Timotheus when being narcissistic and what not. (King Timotheus, lol. it sounds foreign)
ANYWAYS, KYLE, YES!!! PLEASE HAVE SOME ONLINE LESSONS, I WOULD LOVE TO BE ONE OF THE FIRST TO TRY IT! But what the issue comes down to is price. I know you're trying to get dedicated students and what not, but there's too many dedicated pianists in the world that you won't be able to accommodate to everyone.
For now, you should probably just make public videos for 3 levels: beginner, immediate, and advanced. I'd love to see some advanced piano tutorials, you know... *-*
Whatever floats your boat to be honest. (P.S. - I got a camera, piano, and mic all set up too if you wanna teach me.

Hehe, great to see a fellow Timothy here. I'm a sword collector, (small collection due to not being able to work until I'm 16)
and I call myself "Sir Timotheus" when carrying one of my swords. Or when I just want to change things up so instead of saying "Hello" I'll say something like "Greetings from Sir Timotheus, he wishes to speak with you regarding the recent occurrences of life." while pretending to be a messenger.

while i'd say that online lessons is a definite no go, videos/tutorials on your technique would be a very good addition.
Stuff like the fast arpeggios u do with left hand on say your kingdom hearts - passion video, how to improve accuracy. I know myself i have an awful technique for scales, i cant afford lessons so i fear im in a hole at the moment.
But i believe things like this will go a long way.

I can agree with this... video tutorials have been done before, but maybe there's a certain selling/watching point on it being THEE Kyle teaching them

I'm a complete noob at piano, and I got it down from straight practice, so I'd say keep trying?

same here. For passion, just go slow, and just pick up the pace slowly... oh, ever so slowly.

Or tackle it head on at the right speed... I eventually caught onto the finger movements.. I strongly dislike that "play it slowly first" stuff =/

I would do it.
It's not as hard as you think for a student to get a good audio/video setup. I would simply plug my keyboard into my audio interface, and then choose that as my main audio device when streaming. For the video portion, maybe have a couple different cameras positioned in different places which I could either stream together simultaneously or switch back and forth from. (Lol trust me it's way easier than it sounds).
On another note, one disadvantage may be the lack of straight "hands-on" instruction. Maybe a good way of compensating for this would be to either make lessons 45 minutes rather than just a half hour, or discounting maybe a third of the price.
Overall though, I think this could work really well. Well at least that's my take on it.

Sir Timotheus should have requested his sig like that! I would have played along, I know my way around a Renaissance Fair...

i'd love to get some piano lessons on how to improve my level of play & professionalism. >_< i hit wrong notes a lot, and it's not because of speed. it's just ... idk, some really fast things just seem impossible for my fingers to get used to ...
improv tricks would be a really easy piano lesson, although i'd feel like it'd be a waste for Kyle because he's the one paying to go to college, and he's giving us all his tricks for free. D:

I'd consider this a good idea only if the student would come to a lesson prepared with a bunch of questions and you could then answer these questions and demonstrate within a period of something around half an hour to an hour. Something like that would probably work quite well.

@kylelandry
There is that Skype group video option.
How about to arrange group lessons? I think that could be fun. Everyone would be able to ask questions and talk about piano. Also good to meet new people who have a fascination for the piano.
btw. i already have lessons, but i think that would be a great and fun addition for everyone who has a passion for the piano.
