Restoring the important posts of the old forum

Postby Magnus2552 » Wed Jul 22, 2015 4:26 pm

In the old forum there were lots of important posts (like the huge Transcription sharing post), that I (and probably others as well) made back ups of. Due to these posts (especially the Transcription sharing post) being heavily requested by the entire internet, they should be posted as fast as possible again. However, of course the original authors of the posts put a lot of effort into it, so of course I want to give them the time to make their account again and post their post themselves. If they don't made a backup themself, they can ask me. Here is a list of the posts that I made a backup of:

Legend
  • Post not yet restored
  • Post restored by me, but not posted by original author
  • Post successfully restored

If the author of a post does not seem to register in this forum in the next days/weeks, I will post the backup myself - of course giving credit to the username of the original author - because all of them are really informative posts that should not be lost.

Hi! The archive won't be up until sunday I'm afraid, as well as the requested transcriptions list. You are right about that it was posted by Clocloc, but he gave me his account info, so it was really me posting as him. ;)

Also, where should these be posted?

I would say, you make separate threads for them in the Transcription Factory, like it was in the old forum.
Maybe the Archive could better belong to Kyle's corner, but I think it also fits in the Transcription Factory quite well ;) So, it's your decision :)

I'm posting it very soonly. It probably fits to put it in transcription factory, as it will eventually be paired with all sheets from Mendell's list.

Important update on the archive post!

The maximum amount of allowed characters are 60000. The current number, while I was previewing, was 118307. If I were to split it up 20 entire posts would be made :!:  . That seems pretty unnecessary if you ask me.
Magnus, are there any changes that can be made/plugins that can be installed to prevent having all those individual posts, or would that not work? There wasn't any problem on the other forum, which was admittedly inferior, so... What can be done? :|

This archive must have been a hell of a work... nearly 120k characters... :o :o :o
I could increase the number of possible letters to 120k. But what I don't understand is how you come to split it up to 20 posts, if my maths are correct, it would be 2 posts.

The new maximum character limit is 131072 (2^17).
Is it now enough?

Oops, you're right about that. 118907/60000 ≈ 2, 118907/6000 ≈ 20.

I must've accidentally removed a zero O_O

That's fine for now!
Also, I think the links may be a contributing factor to it having so many characters ;) .
